A diurnal species that is most commonly observed in the morning while basking or sheltering beneath rocks. It is highly venomous, possessing both hemotoxic and cytotoxic venom. Adults can reach a total length of up to 1,100 mm, with males generally larger than females. A distinctive characteristic of this species is the presence of horn-like supraocular scales above the eyes. Its diet consists mainly of small mammals, bird chicks, lizards, and occasionally insects. In the Kurdistan Region, this species has been recorded only from Sakran Mountain in Choman District, where it inhabits subalpine habitats above 2,000 m above sea level.
